In this project, the goal was to reinvent the selfie, and I found that in the process of making these images I learned a little bit about myself. At first I was just having fun while learning to navigate photoshop, but as I made more images I started to notice some overarching themes. Towards the end, I placed myself in epic landscapes where I seemed very small. I think these images represent how I feel when I'm off the grid camping or hiking. The other themes might not be so obvious on the surface, but are apparent to me because of my life right now. When I look back at some of the pictures, I notice that the concept seems to incorporate messages of transformation and escape. The pictures that include just my face and some others show I have changed since I've moved to Boulder and how I'd like to get away from my ultra busy life sometimes--maybe by being sucked into a virtual world or by skating away. For the concert pictures and epic landscape pictures, I get a sense of escape through out of body experience, as well. I enjoyed this project because I've become much more comfortable with photoshop and found that working on these images was a nice escape from all of my other responsibilities.
